Advent part 2

Day five: We made and wrote out our Christmas cards. I was lucky to have a child-free afternoon on Tuesday so spent the afternoon painting Christmas cards. So relaxing. The girls have drawn pictures inside and now we need to deliver the goods!

Day six: St Nicholas day celebrations! The girls got a gingerbread treat in their cones and we took the rest of the gingerbread to school for the St Nicholas day celebrations. The school celebrations bring a tear to my eye every time! Children are the most sweetest, darling little things, aren't they?!

Day seven: Lola and Sadie wrote their letters to Santa... well they drew what they wanted. Nostalgia set in watching the girls do this, I still remember the excitement of writing my letter to Santa.  Lola would like a play farm and Sadie would like a tricycle.

Day eight: We made a pompom wreath! This was so fun!

Day nine: Woollen Christmas angels. I had started making some needle felted angels but didn't get them finished in time. I whipped these up early this morning, I think they turned out ok! I followed this tutorial here. Super quick and easy!

So, it's rather festive in this household at the moment. It's such a nice feeling!

wrapping paper diy

I'm a bit of a fan of brown paper packages tied up with string (these are a few of my favourite things! sorry!). I thought it might be fun to stamp some Christmasy shapes on to our wrapping paper this year. Our little ones had lots of fun stamping away.

We used a potato, I cut it in half and etched the shape I wanted to use. We did a Christmas tree, a heart and a circle. The I cut out around the outline about half a centimetre deep. Next we dipped the potato shapes into paint and stamped away on a roll of brown wrapping paper. Lola did some great stamping and Sadie made lots of big white blobs everywhere, but that's ok because it's cute! Now we have some super unique and personalised wrapping paper! VoilĂ ! xx

advent

It really is that time of year again, yikes! My little ones are at the age where Christmas is magic. There's much excitement growing in this house and we're all getting into the Christmas cheer. Presents and gimmicks aside, it really is such a wonderful time of year. I've spoken to those who find Christmas overwhelming but I don't want to feel that. I've made up an advent calendar out of paper cones strung on some twine. Each night before I go to bed I've been popping a little task or surprise into the cones for the morning.

Day One: We don't follow a particular religion in this house but I still think it's important for our girls to understand why Christmas is celebrated. Bible stories have some good morals and whether our children choose to believe or not I think there's a lot of good ideals and moral in these stories, just as there are in other teachings around the world too!

Day Two: A little bit gimmicky... I know. Cute little woodland stickers.

Day Three: The task card said to make a Christmas lantern. We got a little carried away and made 9!! We decided to string them with fairy lights so these will be our Christmas lights this year. You can find a tutorial here if you'd like to make some too!

Day Four: Some Christmasy woolen headbands.

Do you celebrate Christmas? Do you get overwhelmed by the silly season or do you love it? xx
